KEN REYNOLDS: IN MEMORIAM
Theatre Photographer
About this memorial website
I built this website to honor the memory of a great photographer, a great man, and a great friend. Ken Reynolds was born May 5, 1938, and he died August 29, 2021, at the age of 83. I met Ken in Moscow in 1995 when he made his first trip to Russia in search of theatre. Over the next two decades we worked together, occasionally travelled together and shared many a thought and plan by phone and by email, Ken from his home near Edinburgh, I from mine in Moscow. Because I am working from materials that I have in my archive, Ken's work here is slanted toward what he shared with me. Ken, for example, made several fruitful trips to Iran, but I never saw any of that work. The same goes for his countless trips to almost all of the East European countries. However, limited as my collection is, it still provides a worthwhile and worthy introduction to the work of the greatest photographer I worked with in my 30 years as a theatre critic and historian. If I can help bring Ken's work to the attention of even one person who did not know him previously, my mission will be fulfilled.

In October 2023, Ken's full archive was packed up in North Queensferry, Scotland, and moved to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where it took up permanent residence in the Special Collections there. The estimate is that it will take approximately two years to fully catalogue the entire amount of materials.
